Landscaping is what ties everything else together. A patio, a wall and a lawn done separately rarely add up to a garden that works — the levels don’t line up, the steps land awkwardly, and water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t.
We take on full garden projects across Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and the surrounding areas, from clearing an overgrown plot to designing and building a garden from scratch. Because we do the groundwork, paving, brickwork and drainage in-house, the whole thing is set out as one scheme rather than assembled piece by piece.
Hard landscaping
Patios, paths, steps, retaining and garden walls, raised beds, edging, driveways and terracing. This is the structural side, and it’s where we spend the most time getting the levels and falls right.
Soft landscaping
Turfing, artificial grass, topsoil, borders and planting. We’ll advise on what will actually thrive in your garden’s aspect and soil rather than what looks good on the day it goes in.

Clearing, excavation, terracing a sloped garden into usable flat areas, and building the retaining structures that hold it all in place.
Worth Thinking About Before You Start
The gardens that turn out best are the ones where the customer has thought through how they’ll actually use the space. A few questions worth answering before we quote:
How much time do you want to spend looking after it? A garden full of borders and planting needs regular attention. If you’d rather not spend your weekends on it, we’d steer you towards more paving, more lawn and lower-maintenance planting.
Who’s using it? Children, dogs, wheelchair access, someone with hay fever or allergies — each of these changes the design. Steps versus a gentle slope, gravel versus paving, and which plants to avoid.
What’s the garden like? Which parts get sun and when, where it gets waterlogged, how exposed it is. Where you’d want to sit in the evening usually decides where the patio goes.
What’s the budget? Knowing the figure up front means we can put it where it counts and phase the rest, rather than designing something that has to be cut back later.
You don’t need answers to all of this before you call. It’s what the first visit is for.
How long does a full garden take?
Anything from a week for a straightforward patio and turf job to several weeks for a complete rebuild with levels, walls and drainage. You’ll get realistic dates with your quote, not optimistic ones.
Can the work be done in phases?
Yes, and it often makes sense. We’d usually do the groundwork, drainage and hard landscaping first, then come back for planting and finishing. It spreads the cost without redoing anything.
My garden is on a slope — can it be levelled?
Usually, yes, by terracing it into flat sections with retaining walls between them. It’s more work than a flat plot, but a sloped garden that’s been properly terraced is often more interesting than a flat one.
Do you do the planting as well as the building?
Yes. Turfing, topsoil, borders and planting are all part of what we do, and we’ll advise on what suits the conditions.
What time of year is best?
Hard landscaping can be done year-round. Turf establishes best in spring and autumn. Autumn and winter are our quieter months, so it’s often the easiest time to get booked in.
